When we screen

Not every woman will receive an appointment as soon as she is 50 but you will receive your first appointment before your 53rd birthday and therefore there is no need to contact us for an appointment. Women over the age of 70 are encouraged to continue with breast screening but must contact the screening office once every three years for an appointment.

If, however, it has been more than 3 years since you were last invited then please contact us as soon as possible.

We will send you an appointment letter showing the time and place of your appointment, about 4 weeks before your screening is due. There is therefore no need to contact us directly.

When you receive your invitation letter you will see that we have already allocated you a specific screening location, appointment date and time. If you find this appointment inconvenient then please complete the appointment request form so we can arrange an alternative appointment that suits you better.

Screening is organised according to where you live or according to your GP practice. If you live within Bexley and Greenwich your GP practice will be contacted once every three years and we will invite all women between the ages of 50 and 70. If you live in Lewisham, Lambeth, Southwark or Bromley the invitations are organised into groups identified by your postcode area and month of birth.
